Interpersonal skills are the life skills we use every day to communicate and interact with other people, both individually and in groups. Some of these skills include verbal and non-verbal communication, listening skills, negotiation, problem-solving, and assertiveness. We find ourselves automatically drawn towards people with strong interpersonal skills because they are strong decision makers and have the know-how of communicating with each person on their own individual levels. Good interpersonal communication skills allow us to work better in groups in teams – whether it be professionally or in social gatherings. If you think back to the last party you went to, I am sure you can recall one or two people who were the life of the party – gaining everyone’s attention through their stories or the way they mingled with different groups of people connecting with each on a common ground. These are people who have those desired interpersonal skills which allows them to reach a certain level of success.
Listening skills is one of the most underrated of all the life skills. What we don’t realize is that it tends to impact all the rest. The strongest connection one can make with the other is through actually listening to what they are communicating to you. In terms of business success as well, a good listener is usually the one who “climbs up the ladder” the quickest. Active listeners have the ability to listen at all levels, giving the appropriate needed input at the time, and keeping their opinions aside when there are other better ideas on the table. This concept of cooperation is a vital component to success.
As well-developed interpersonal skills are vital for success in the workplace and beyond, Hissah Enrichment Center has taken it upon ourselves to give you specialized training to help you develop your communication and “people” skills, to overcome resistance, and engage and motivate people to work with you towards your goals.
