Diversity & Dignity

Our Services

Diversity & Dignity

Dr. Donna Hicks has worked for years on the concept of dignity in relationships and has written the ground-breaking book “Dignity: The Essential Role It Plays in Resolving Conflict”.

Dignity is an essential human need and part of a fruitful relationship. When there is conflict in any of our close relationships – be it professional or personal – we find that our life becomes more complicated and messy. Stress levels rise and we find that we can’t focus on anything properly. On the other hand, when all our relationships are going smoothly, we find ourselves more productive and overall happier.

The presence of dignity allows for deeper connections and more meaningful relationships, while the lack of it can oftentimes lead to violence and aggression. There seems to be a great lack of understanding of the concept of dignity, which many times is the actual root of the issue in a conflicted relationship.

Hissah Enrichment Center brings to you a one-of-a-kind experience which is a workshop facilitated exclusively by Dr. Donna Hicks of Harvard University. In this workshop, Hicks explains what the elements of dignity are, how to recognize dignity violations, how to respond when we are not treated with dignity, how dignity can restore a broken relationship, why leaders must understand the concept of dignity, and more. One-to-one and group follow-up sessions are available upon special request.

Cultural Formation

Our Services

Cultural Formation

Cultural formation can be defined as a process that trains citizens in the knowledge of their country and their common humanity while giving them moral and intellectual virtues.

This involves knowing human rights, responsibilities, nature, and what it requires to be a good citizen and resourceful member of the society. Cultural formation is a process. It begins with a person who is not cultured and transforms them into a cultured person. It is not a short process done overnight, but a long process that requires gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of the human system.

At Hissah Enrichment Center, we offer services to help improve broader management functioning by deepening understanding of how human systems develop, evolve, and impact organizational working life. We aim to help people become more productive members of our world at large.

Dealing With Difference

Our Services

Dealing With Difference

In a rapidly changing cultural workforce, diversity is key to any organization’s success. It may sound like a simple concept, but in fact the term diversity encompasses many things.

It involves race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, cognitive style, tenure, organizational function, education, background and more. Diversity also involves how people perceive themselves and others, and this in turn determines how they interact and communicate with one another. Communication, adaptability, problem and conflict resolution are all key areas that determine the success of an organization.

There are many benefits of diversity in the workplace. Diverse backgrounds, cultural understanding, and languages allows an organization to provide services to customers on a global basis without any difficulties. It also helps in providing a greater variety of solutions through individual talents and experiences. When there is an open, free, and welcoming environment in an organization for people of all different cultures, creeds, ages, and educational backgrounds – it will only bring benefits as any form of restrictions against diversity brings with it great limitations.

Hissah Enrichment Center is a proud believer in diversity and we encourage it in our workspace and urge others to do the same. To help better understand the subject and provide the appropriate tools to adopt this concept we have developed a diversity training program which will be of benefit to group leaders, human resource managers, supervisors, and other professionals wishing to enhance their organizations success as well as personal growth. Through assessments and training, participants develop a range of strategies and practices to better promote effective cross-cultural communication, conflict resolution, pooling of ideas and suggestions, and thus improving their organizational environment. Participants will achieve a better understanding of identity and difference and develop practical skills and tools to help establish their particular role in their workplace which in turn will build and promote organizational diversity.

Adult Survivors

Our Services

Adult Survivors

Generally, there are 4 major types of child abuse that may co-exist and overlap. These are: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional / psychological abuse, and child neglect.

Physical abuse can be defined as any intentional use of physical force that may cause injury – this can include hitting, kicking, slapping, pinching, shaking, pushing, or striking with an object. Sexual abuse in children involves all and any sexual activity or touching, there is no exceptions as a child does not have the ability or understanding to consent to any form of sexual activity or suggestions. Emotional/Psychological abuse is defined as behaviors, speech, and actions of parents, caregivers, or other significant figures in a child’s life that have a negative mental impact on the child or even allowing children to witness any form of abuse on another person – be it child or adult. Lastly, child neglect is simply when the basic needs of a child are not met which includes failure to provide the proper supervision, clothing, shelter, nutrition, healthcare, as well as a failure to give the child the emotional, social, educational, and security needs they require.

As we have briefly touched upon the types of abuse we see that each and every type (many times there are multiple types of abuse occurring simultaneously) are horrifying and torturous for an innocent child to bear. Since a child is ill equipped to understand what is happening and why, the long-term impacts of childhood abuse tend to be a long and shadow that leaves a cloud hanging over that can mute happiness in adulthood. For adult survivors of abuse, the root of many problems and issues they face whether in their relationships, workplace, social life, or stress and anxiety levels, can be traced back to the abuse they faced as a child. Tackling those old traumas and learning to live without them having negative impacts is the ultimate goal.

At Hissah, our aim is to assist adults who have experienced childhood trauma and/or abuse in all its forms. We provide information about childhood trauma/abuse, the effects of that abuse in adulthood, as well as provide coping strategies. Participants are empowered to gain greater insight into themselves, come to terms with what they went through, examine their past and current relationships to identify and fix any negative patterns, and to embrace and equip them with positive life skills and hopeful outlooks for the future.

Stress Management

Our Services

Stress Management

Stress is the epidemic of the 21stC and impacts people’s lives in a myriad of ways. Life has become more fast-paced and demanding, with more demanding jobs and social responsibilities.

As materialism is on the rise, so has our cost of living. All these factors combined naturally bring certain levels of stress, for some more than others. It is a well-known fact that emotions are displayed in a physical manner whether it is shown through our facial expressions or through health conditions created by stress. The best way to manage these situations is to understand the root cause of the problem that manifests itself physically in one way or the other.

Scientific studies have proven that health conditions can be caused or worsened by stress, anger, depression and other emotional states for kids and adults of all ages. While medications can help offset some of the side effects and reduce the symptoms, it is only by dealing with the underlying psychological factors that health will start to improve and the individual will be better on a long-term basis. Everyone struggles in their own unique way which could range from stress induced overeating, anger issues which increase blood pressure, or depression related lethargy. Learning to manage stress levels in our demanding and hectic world today is the ultimate goal.

Hissah Enrichment Center has a range of stress management workshops and presentations to offer that provide the insight, practical tools, and strategies that are needed to lower stress and build resilience to achieve balance, fulfillment and success. This workshop takes a multimodal approach to managing stress, considering how it impacts one’s behavior, emotions, body sensations, imagery, thinking, relationships and physical well-being. Techniques will be introduced to address each of these modalities and will include the use of biofeedback (including the highly regarded HeartMath system).

Understanding Personality

Our Services

Understanding Personality

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.

The study of personality focuses on two broad areas: One is understanding individual differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability. The other is understanding how the various parts of a person come together as a whole.

Having a good understanding of your personality allows you to figure out how you will react in certain scenarios and situations, what types of people and situations you should avoid, your conflict resolution strategies, what type of work environment will suit you best and much more. It will make your life more comfortable as well as of those who live and work with you. Knowing yourself and your strengths and weakness is a big plus point as it shows through your confidence and way you uphold yourself.

In the workplace, it is very important for you to be able to gel well with those you work with. We spend the most amount of our time during the week communicating with our colleagues, therefore having a good idea of their personality as well as your own will allow for smoother and more efficient work, which in turn will bring greater growth and success for the organization.

The Meyers Briggs Type Indicator Workshop: The 16 MBTI personality types have been used for many years to facilitate group dynamics in leading companies. In this interactive workshop, participants will be guided through several different methods designed to assist them in identifying their own personality type; to identify the potential strengths and weaknesses of their personality type; work towards further developing their strengths; as well tips and methods to work more effectively with people of differing personality types.

Conflict Resolution

Our Services

Conflict Resolution

Conflict is an inevitable part of our lives. There is no relationship – whether personal or professional – that isn’t faced with some form of conflict at some point or the other.

No matter what the circumstance or situation, conflict is always uncomfortable and can very easily get out of hand. Handling conflict in ineffective ways not only ends up in a mess that is hard to clean up but it can actually lead to increased stress levels which, in turn, can be detrimental to your health. Increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol can lead to hardening of the arteries which can increase the risk of heart attacks and high blood pressure.

Conflict is not always a bad thing. If it is tackled in the right way, it can actually help in clearing the air and working out the issues at hand by coming to a common ground and understanding. This can help in avoiding future conflicts as well. Learning to deal with conflict in a more conducive and constructive way, without excessive stress, is therefore an important way to improve your well-being on a whole as well as your relationships at work and at home.

At Hissah Enrichment Center, we understand the importance in this time of fast-paced lifestyles, pressing deadlines, and highly stressful jobs that being equipped with proper conflict resolution skills is a must. We offer a unique interactive one-day course focused completely on handling conflict which will enable participants to identify their current conflict styles, recognize the styles as used by others, and begin selecting the best style to use for individual conflict situations. This course delves into the 5 key styles of handling conflict, and sheds light on the wide range of useful skills, such as assertiveness, active listening, and emotional intelligence, that can be worked upon to help deal with conflict.

Anger Management

Our Services

Anger Management

Anger is a normal human emotion and it is unrealistic to expect
people not to get angry. But uncontrolled anger is the real danger
and it is toxic to any relationship.

It is an incredibly damaging force that costs people personal relationships, creates issues in the workplace and can even get to the extreme level of ultimately taking lives. Often anger is a front for other feelings like sadness, frustration, loneliness or powerlessness. Suppressed anger works inwards rather than outwards, eating away at all forms and sources of happiness till all that is left is anxiety, depression, rage and eventually a complete system breakdown. Anger can cause serious emotional and social problems and can leave a person feeling antagonized and alone.

Hissah Enrichment Center’s anger management training is one of the best services the center has to offer. Using Redford Williams’ 12 steps we help participants control aggression by learning to challenge their negative thought processes and develop appropriate ways to express their feelings. By becoming aware of the underlying emotion, participants can learn to change how they view, interpret and describe events, effectively channeling anger into more creative outcomes. Resolution and control comes when trainers help individuals identify the root of their anger issues. Sometimes past hurt feelings and painful situations left unaddressed result in future anger issues. Inability to handle stressful situations and work deadlines may also convert into mismanaged anger. When the root issues are identified, individuals can feel that they have a better grip on their situation. This can help remove any sense of helplessness and loss of control as they begin their journey toward a positive, anger-free life.

It is ideal for women and men, families, professionals, students, consultants, trainers, in addition to group leaders in health care and social services. Group leaders who wish to design and deliver their own workshops, facilitators seeking improvement in their leadership skills, as well as supervisors who hope to work upon enhancing group motivation and dynamics can also gain from this training. Offered on-site and throughout the GCC, the anger management services come at reasonable prices. The anger management program in Dubai offered by HEC is guaranteed to be the very best that you can find in the region.
